Getting one of the powerful Artifacts of the Iron Lords can't be done right away, but it's worth the time and effort to get one of them.

1. Complete the Rise of Iron Quest

First off, you have to complete the main story of Rise of Iron.

2. Artifacts of the Iron Lords

After that, speak to Tyra Karn in the Iron Temple and she'll give you the quest "Artifacts of the Iron Lords". Go into the Plaguelandspatrol and kill enemies, help Guardians, and do Patrols for the Temple and City.

3. Return to Tyra Karn and Purchase an Artifact

Upon completing and turning in the quest, Tyra will give you an Iron Lords' Legacy item.

Use that item to purchase the Artifact of your choice for the given week. Whichever you purchase will give you a quest respective to that Iron Lord, giving you a quest called "Attune Memory of [an Iron Lord]" where "[an Iron Lord]" is replaced by the name of said Iron Lord.

4. Attune with the Iron Lord

Once you have the Artifact you want, take it to the statue of the respective Iron Lord and attune with it. There are eight Iron LordArtifacts, and thus eight statues.

These are all the known Iron LordArtifacts:

  • Memory of Felwinter: Lose Super ability, gain one extra Grenade and Melee charge, and small boosts to all stats; collected Orbs recharge Grenade and Melee meters.
  • Memory of Gheleon: Improved radar; radar will work when aiming down sights with Primary weapons.
  • Memory of Jolder: Removes sprint cooldown penalty.
  • Memory of Perun: Enemy Guardians with full Supers and all enemies with low health are highlighted.
  • Memory of Radegast: Can reflect energy-based projectiles with a sword, including Rockets in the Crucible.
  • Memory of Silimar: In the Crucible, resistance to damage-over-time attacks is greatly increased.
  • Memory of Skorri: When your super is full, nearby allies' supers recharge faster.
  • Memory of Timur: Melee attacks on minor minions of the Darkness have a chance to temporarily turn the target against its allies.

While some of these might not seem incredible for your playstyle at first, pairing them with Exotic gear can make all the difference, such as the Memory of Jolder with the Dunemarchers or Fr0st-EE5Exotic leg armour for the Titan and Hunter respectively. Finding out which Artifact pairs well with your playstyle can make all the difference.

One of the most notorious weapons in gaming history is making its return during Destiny 2: Season of the Drifter. Even if you never played the original Destiny, you’ve most likely heard tales of the legendary (well, technically Exotic) Thorn. It’s an Exotic hand cannon that drains the light of Guardians.

In terms of gameplay, though, that just means the Thorn’s bullets deal damage over time. It’s a nasty, venomous weapon in the Crucible. Presumably, it will be just as frustrating to fight against in Gambit Prime and Trials of the Nine (if the latter mode ever comes back to Destiny 2). Your enemies can’t run and hide if Thorn burns away the last of their light and kills them out of sight. That’s the power that Thorn wields.

When Can I Get the Thorn in Destiny 2?

The return of the Thorn, and its accompanying Exotic quest, have been teased in Destiny 2 for quite a while now. Although we didn’t know the weapon was coming for sure until recently. The Season of the Drifter ViDoc promises that it is indeed coming with the new expansion, however, and that’s great news for fans of the old weapon.

Season of the Drifter lands in Destiny 2 on March 5, 2019. However, The Thorn Exotic quest won’t arrive with it right away. Instead, players will have to wait full week — until the expansion’s first weekly reset on March 12 — to start picking up the Thorn. On top of that, it’s not entirely clear if you’ll be able to complete the Thorn quest in Destiny 2 the same week it comes out.

Thorn Exotic Quest Steps

0. Sift Through the Ashes – Visit EDZ

We’re just going to leave a gif on where you can find the quest starter. Long story short, go to the EDZ and make a trek across the map.

1. A Melted Hunk of Metal – Visit Banshee-44

Visit Banshee-44 in the Tower to start the Thorn quest, proper.

Despite the burn damage, you recognize this weapon as a Thorn, a legendary weapon capable of severing Guardians from the Light. The Shadows of Yor, followers of an infamous Guardian-killer, are well-known for carrying Thorns. This one is broken, but you think it may be possible to fix it. A reputable (and discreet) gunsmith would know where to start. Bring the ruined Thorn to Banshee-44 in the Tower.

2. The Essence – Gather Hadronic Essence

Gather Hadronic Essence by completing Asher Mir bounties on Io, defeating Warlocks in the Crucible, or completing Nightfalls.

Banshee has recommended a number of rare components that you should be able to use to restore your ruined Thorn to working order. First on the list is Hadronic Essence, a dense lattice of exotic baryons and mesons, once commonly favored as an infusion in Warlock fieldweave. Gather Hadronic Essence by completing bounties for Asher Mir on Io, by defeating Warlocks in the Crucible, or by completing Nightfall strikes. Nightfall strikes grant the most efficient progress.

3. The Steel – Gather Plasteel Plating

Gather Plasteel Plating by doing bounties for Sloane on Titan, defeating Titans in the Crucible, or completing Blind Well runs.

Next on the list of required components is Plasteel Plating, a durable hybrid plastic favored by Titans for its balance of strength and workability. Plasteel is not commonly available for artisan use these days: the Red War wiped out the DIY supply chain within the City. Gather Plasteel Plating by completing bounties for Sloane on Titan, by defeating Titans in the Crucible, or by completing encounters at the Blind Well. Heroic Blind Well encounters grant the most efficient progress.

4. The Binding – Gather Sapphire Wire

Gather Sapphire Wire by doing bounties for Ana Bray on Mars, defeating Hunters in the Crucible, or finishing Escalation Protocol waves.

Last on the list of Guardian-grade components is Sapphire Wire, another hard-to-come-by item formerly favored by Hunters because of its versatility. Sapphire Wire, like Plasteel Plating, was another casualty of the Red War… but you feel confident that you can scrounge some up. Gather Sapphire Wire by completing bounties for Ana Bray on Mars, by defeating Hunters in the Crucible, or by completing an Escalation Protocol wave. Escalation Protocol waves grant the most efficient progress.

5. Weaponize the Unknown – Defeat Guardians in the Crucible

Defeat Guardians in the Crucible using Void weapons or Hand Cannons. Bonus progress for Void Hand Cannons. Progress is multiplied in Iron Banner or the Competitive playlist.

Your project is going well. The gun is now mechanically sound, but it is simply a gun: it has no intrinsic power of its own. You’ll need to reconnect it to the Light somehow, and the vast dark secrets of the Void seem like the most promising route. Defeat Guardians in the Crucible using Void energy or Hand Cannons. Precision streaks using Void Hand Cannons grant the most efficient progress. Note that progress is multiplied in the Iron Banner or in Competitive Crucible matches.

6. Something Yet Remains – Visit Tyra Karn

Back to the farm we go to talk to Tyra Karn. If you don’t remember, she’s the Cryptarch at the Farm social hub on Earth.

Your Thorn hums with the hungry indifference of the Void, but it lacks something essential. You know the original Thorn was intimately connected to the Hive, though you don’t know exactly how. Wandering around the Tower to ask your mentors about the provenance of a banned weapon strikes you as a bad idea, but— There are quieter places to ask questions. Places off the beaten path, where knowledgeable Cryptarchs have settled down to do their work in peace and quiet… Pay a visit to Tyra Karn at the Farm. The Farm is accessible via the EDZ Director.

7. The Chasm of Screams – Beat Savathûn’s Song Strike, Other Arbiters

Defeat Sardav and Telesh on Titan freeroam. Then complete Savathûn’s Song strike reprise. There’s likely to be no matchmaking for the strike so you’ll want a friend or two to help.

While you were speaking to Tyra, she mentioned something called the Hated Path, a sort of primer to transform an ordinary Hand Cannon into a Thorn. Bathe your Light in horrors. Feed your weapon with death. Bind it with sickness. Horrors, death, sickness… that all sounds like the Hive nests on Titan to you. Defeat the Arbiters, Sardav and Telesh, then defeat Savathûn’s Song in an epic reprise of strike “Savathûn’s Song” on Titan.

And that’s it! This should get you Thorn in Destiny 2!

Whenever the Thorn Exotic quest does go live in Destiny 2, though, you can check back here! Until then, maybe take a look at our general guide to everything in Season of the Drifter. You might just learn something! And until next time: happy hunting, Guardians!

Destiny 2 Challenger's Proving Quest

Destiny 2: Season of the Chosen campaign walkthrough

Destiny 2: Season of the Chosen campaign walkthrough

Destiny 2: Season of the Chosen has arrived, as has Empress Caiatl. This new campaign introduces players to the Season’s newest activities and mechanics, including Battleground and H.E.L.M., and also brings back Umbral Decoding. The main questline of Season of the Chosen is called A Challenger Rises, here’s a step-by-step guide to ensure you come out victorious.

Season of the Chosen campaign – A Challenger Rises

Season of the Chosen begins with a fight through the new Battlegrounds, before a quick stop at the H.E.L.M., and finally on to the main quest, A Challenger Rises. Completing A Challenger Rises is a requirement in accessing the Battleground via the Vanguard option in the Director. Thankfully, the questline is rather straightforward.

Step 1: Battleground: Behemoth – Recommended Power 1100

destiny 2 season of the chosen campaign

The first thing that will happen in Season of the Chosen is Battleground: Behemoth. The game should automatically take you to Nessus and into a matchmade activity.

destiny 2 season of the chosen keymaster

The goal is to fight the Cabal and collect keys from Keymasters. These Keymasters spawn after waves of Cabal are defeated. With three keys collected, activate the nearby terminal and move to the next area.

destiny 2 season of the chosen power cell

Defeat Cabal until a powerful enemy spawns. Defeat it to get a Volatile Power Cell which you must throw at the generators. Make sure to hit the three glowing parts, not the ends, as the cell won’t actually damage the ends. If you miss, another enemy will spawn that has another cell.

With the generators broken, the main boss of the Battleground will come stomping out. Defeat it to finish the Battleground. This will be the main theme behind the new activity for Season of the Chosen.

Step 2: A Challenger Rises

destiny 2 season of the chosen a challenger arises

The boss you defeated in the Battleground will have dropped something called the Bell of Conquest, bring it tothe War Table in the H.E.L.M., the new area in the Tower. You will receive the Seasonal Artifact by doing this.

Step 3: Challenger’s Proving

season of the chosen challenger's proving

While at the H.E.L.M., collect the quest it’s offering and then watch the small interaction between Osiris and Crow.

Step 4: Visit the Umbral Decoder

destiny 2 season of the chosen umbral decoder

The Vanguard has taken Drifter’s Umbral Decoder. You can now find it in the H.E.L.M. near the Vault and Postmaster terminals. Approach it and collect the quest, Decrypting the Darkness.

Step 5: Decrypting the Darkness

season of the chosen decrypting the darkness

After collecting this quest, you will then need to interact with the Umbral Decoder a second time and pick up the other message from Tyra Karn. This rewards you with a Fragile Prismatic Lens.

Step 6: Use the Prismatic Recaster

destiny 2 season of the chosen prismatic recaster

With the Prismatic Lens in hand, interact with the Prismatic Recaster (the orange, glowing pit) and select the top tile, Umbral Affinity. Under Weapon Focusing, you will need to select the Umbral Engram that appears there. With the Umbral Engram focused, go back to the Umbral Decoder station and decrypt the Umbral Engram.

Read the message from Tyra and collect your reward: an emblem.

Step 7: Return to the War Table

destiny 2 season of the chosen basilius

Interact with the War Table to speak with Lord Saladin and get your next orders. You will be tasked with taking down Basilius the Golem.

Step 8: Battleground: Hailstone – Recommended Power 1150

destiny 2 season of the chosen hammer of proving

With your orders received, head to Europa to do the next Battleground: Hailstone. This uses the same mechanics as the first Battleground. When the boss is defeated, you will get the Hammer of Proving.

Step 9: Return to the H.E.L.M.

destiny 2 season of the chosen HELM Hammer of Proving

Interact with the H.E.L.M. to receive the Hammer of Proving. This new device uses Cabal Gold in order to socket Challenger Medallions. It can also be upgraded at the War Table.

Step 10: Get Cabal Gold

destiny 2 season of the chosen cabal gold

You will need to get at least 14 Cabal Gold in order to progress this step. Cabal Gold is earned in playlist Strikes, Gambit, Crucible, public events, dungeons, Nightmare Hunts, or the Blind Well.

Step 11: Socket a medallion

destiny 2 season of the chosen slot in a medallion

After getting at least 14 Cabal Gold, you can socket a medallion into the Hammer of Proving. Open your Quest tab and inspect the Hammer of Proving. In the slot, put in an Etched Challenger Medallion – this costs 14 Cabal Gold.

Step 12: Play the Battleground playlist

destiny 2 season of the chosen battleground playlist

Load up the Battleground playlist in the Director. This can be found in the Vanguard node. At the end of this will be a Tribute Chest for you to smash. It’s important to note you must launch the activity through the playlist, launching it from a destination does not count.

Step 13: Return to the H.E.L.M.

destiny 2 season of the chosen return War Table

The Challenger’s Proving quest will ask you to go back to the H.E.L.M. and interact with the War Table. Read Osiris’ message and collect the Umbral Engram to get the next step.

Step 14: Focus an Umbral Engram

destiny 2 season of the chosen umbral engram

Go to the Prismatic Recaster (the orange pit) and focus the Emgram you just received. Pick the slot that requires a little bump in Power. Decrypt the Umbral Engram at the Umbral Decoder to get the next step.

Step 15: Go back to the War Table

destiny 2 season of the chosen war table

Run back to the War Table to get a message from Lord Saladin. You will receive 28 Cabal Gold for your efforts.

That’s it. You’ve completed the Destiny 2: Season of the Chosen campaign, which does a good job of introducing players to the H.E.L.M., the War Table, the Prismatic Recaster and Umbral Decoder, as well as the Hammer of Proving and how it works with the Battleground playlist. Destiny 2 Thorn quest steps, Thorn Ornament, and how to start by finding the Salt Mines location

Destiny's Thorn finally comes to the sequel after not one but two appearances in the original game - and now the snazzy Thorn Ornament Wishes of Sorrow has been discovered, too.

The Exotic Hand Cannon is arguably the most divisive weapon in the game's history, thanks to its powerful perk that causes damage to your opponents over time - which came in handy for competitive Crucible matches.

Thorn will be available as part of the Season of the Drifter - part of the second wave of Destiny 2's Forsaken DLC - for those who own the game's Annual Pass.

As long as you have that, you can get started - though you'll need to find the Thorn quest start location first.

On this page:

How to get Thorn in Destiny 2 in brief

In brief, the Destiny 2 Thorn quest steps are as follows:

  • Start the Thorn quest by finding the camp in the Salt Mines
  • Visit Banshee-44 in the Tower
  • Complete destination bounties on Io, defeat Warlocks in Crucible matches, or complete Nightfalls
  • Complete destination bounties on Titan, defeat Titans in Crucible matches, or complete Blind Well runs
  • Complete destination bounties on Mars, defeat Hunters in Crucible matches, or complete Escalation Protocol waves
  • Defeat Guardians in the Crucible using Void weapons or Hand Cannons
  • Visit Tyra Karn at the Farm
  • Complete a special version of the Savathun's Song strike

It should be noted this has nothing to do with the Stand with the Drifter or Vanguard Allegiance quest - though there are hints of where to find the Thorn start location by doing it. It's not required though, so feel free to get started!

Thanks to cbgray on YouTube for helping flesh out the above steps:

Thorn quest start location in the Salt Mines

Interestingly, you have to go to a specific location within one of Destiny 2's worlds to get started with the Thorn quest.

That Thorn quest start location is the Salt Mines, on the EDZ. To get there, first head to the Trostland fast travel point - it's the one in front of the church.

destiny_2_thorn_quest_1
destiny_2_thorn_quest_2

Head past the church and you'll find a pathway at the other side, with huge banners above it.

destiny_2_thorn_quest_3

After going through the passage way, you'll end up at an open area, with the Salt Mines appearing on the screen.

destiny_2_thorn_quest_4

Proceed on to the tunnel at the far end, with the sign saying 'Salzwerk' above it.

Head inside, and you'll come to an area with enemies. At the far side is an orange and gray tank.

destiny_2_thorn_quest_5
destiny_2_thorn_quest_6

Stand next to it, and you'll have to option to Transmat.

destiny_2_thorn_quest_7

You'll then end up in a new location. Head straight ahead up the path, passing a glowing gate to your right.

destiny_2_thorn_quest_8
destiny_2_thorn_quest_9

Soon the path will seemingly end. However, if you stand on the left side of the road, and look a little up, you'll see a glowing light in the rock above.

destiny_2_thorn_quest_10

You can jump up through here to progress, taking you to a camp site. Explore the left side of the debris to find the prompt 'Sift through the ashes'.

destiny_2_thorn_quest_11

You'll then receive the 'A Melted Hunk of Metal' quest step.

destiny_2_thorn_quest_12

There's more to come in the Season of the Lost roadmap, but until then, there are new Exotics such as the Ager's Scepter and the long-awaited arrival of crossplay. New activities include the Wayfinders Voyage, the Astral Alignment activity and finding Atlas Skew, Trivial Mystery, Enigmatic Mystery, Ascendant Mystery, Data Cache, Parallax Trajectory and Ascendant Anchor locations. Elsewhere, we've seen new Nightfall weapons such as the Uzume RR4, Plug One.1 and Hung Jury SR4. Other recent new features include transmog and materials Synthstrand, Synthcord and Synthweave, the Splicer Gauntlet and Decrypted Data used to upgrade it.

How to complete the Destiny 2 Thorn quest in detail

With the 'A Melted Hunk of Metal' collected, visit Banshee-44 in the Tower to get the first step - collecting Hadronic Essence by completing destination bounties on Io, defeating Warlocks in Crucible matches, or completing Nightfalls

Destination bounties require you to visit Io's vendor, Asher Mir, while completing Nightfalls will progress this step faster than the rest. At least you have a range of options to choose from based on your tastes.

The second step is very similar - collecting Plasteel Plating by completing destination bounties on Titan, defeating Titans in Crucible matches, or completing Blind Well runs.

You'll want to visit Sloane on Titan for those Bounties, and like previously, Blind Well runs increase your progress faster than anything else - particularly useful since Blind Well is matchmade.

The third step runs along the same theme - completing destination bounties on Mars, defeating Hunters in Crucible matches, or completing Escalation Protocol waves.

Again, Ana Bray is who you need to visit for Bounties, and Escalation Proctocol waves will progress you faster than the other activities on this list.

destiny_2_thorn

When those are done, it's time to visit the Crucible and defeat Guardians using Void weapons or Hand Cannons. You can double up by using a Void Hand Cannon, and there's a bonus for playing in a Competitive playlist - which includes Iron Banner, when that rolls around.

Almost done. Next, visit the Farm (remember that? If you don't, you can access it via the EDZ on the planetary map screen) and speak to Tyra Karn, who will give you the final quest step - complete a special version of the Savathun's Song strike named The Chasm of Screams.

As always with missions like these in Exotic quests, it's not matchmade, so playing with friends is very recommended. It's a tougher version of the strike, and you might struggle with the final stage in particular.

Thankfully, there's a cheese you can use to help you through it, as cbgray on YouTube shows:

Once that's done, the Thorn is yours. Congratulations!

Datamines (via light.gg) tells us two of Thorn's perks. The first is Mark of the Devourer, which rounds deal damage over time, as with the original Thorn, and drops Remnants. Soul Devourer, meanwhile, will see Mark of the Devourer increase in damage and partially refill the magazine each time you pick up these Remnants.

Sounds useful!

Thorn Ornament details and how to get the Wishes of Sorrow Thorn skin

If you've been wondering, then wonder no more: Thorn does indeed have an Ornament, and it's called Wishes of Sorrow.

It's not available in the game just yet, but one player on the Destiny subreddit, DarkDra9on555, managed to acquire it by chance through some kind of glitch - it doesn't seem like it's replicable so don't expect to be able to glitch your own way it too, this seemed to happen by chance during an update!

Here's what it looks like - again credit to DarkDra9on555 for the images.

destiny_2_thorn_ornament2

How to get the Thorn Ornament

As we mentioned above the Wishes of Sorrow Thorn Ornament isn't in the game yet, but the understanding is that it'll arrive via an Eververse Bundle, available to be purchased from Tess Everis in the Tower. It's very unlikely you'll be able to earn it any other way in-game, but we'll update this page with confirmation once it goes live!

Here are some more of DarkDra9on555's images, if you're interested!

How you unlocked Thorn in Destiny's Rise of Iron

The path to getting your hands on Thorn a second time in the original Destiny (Year 1 weapons were Light level locked, so many were re-released at higher levels in Years 2 and 3) was a blend of killing Fallen, running Strikes and spending plenty of time in the Crucible.

With the first Destiny also still live, you can still follow these steps to unlock it if you are playing Rise of Iron:

:: The 20 best PS4 games you can play right now

  • Redeem specific Bounties until the Quest appears
  • Run the Wretched Eye Strike
  • Kill Fallen in the Plaguelands
  • Kill players in Crucible with Void damage
  • Consume 5 Motes of Light to 'cleanse' the weapon
  • Use a Skeleton Key at the end of The Abomination Heist Strike

The first - and most unpredictable part - is actually starting the A Light in the Dark Quest itself. Similar to Thorn back in vanilla Destiny, the Quest will begin at random when you complete a Iron Lord Bounty from Iron Tower vendor Shiro-4. There's also a report that it'll drop from a Weekly Crucible Bounty, too, but those are harder to come by.

1

The drop rate for this Quest isn't clear; even after clearing a fortnight's worth of Bounties from Shiro-4 (so eight in total) it had yet to unlock for us, and there's nothing much more you can do aside from picking up his Bounties, heading to The Plaguelands and handing them in when completed, so get used to running Patrol Missions and teaming up with others in Archon's Forge until it finally drops.

When it eventually unlocks, the first proper Quest step in A Light in the Dark is running The Wretched Eye, which is Rise of Iron's sole new Strike. You can do this on any difficulty, and won't take you 20 minutes to complete it. (Remember to pick up a few Dormant SIVA Clusters you're missing while you're at it.)

After that is Harvest of the Lesser where you kill Fallen in the Plaguelands. It apparently ranges at around the 500 range, which is no small figure. Thankfully Fallen are pretty much everywhere in Patrol, and might be worth doing this over a handful of days while doing other Bounties and Quests to tick few boxes off at the same time.

After that, you have to do the Feast Upon the Light stage by venturing to the Crucible and take down other players with Void damage. This is a percentage-based objective, and according to the Destiny sub-Reddit, you need to take down 125 players. This covers both Void weapons and Void sub-classes, of which you should hopefully have plenty of now; if you're struggling, remember that Light level doesn't count in the Crucible, so Year 1 gear will do just fine (Word of Crota will help here, if you have it!).

Apparently dying doesn't impact the progress of this stage, nor which playlist you use (though Private Matches are a no go) so play with whatever you're most comfortable with, ideally also running Daily or Weekly Crucible Bounties that, again, makes the effort much more worthwhile, and it might be a good opportunity to complete the new Supremacy Questline if you've yet to finish it too. Ultimately, killing over 100 players can be a long step, depending on your ability, so do whatever it takes to make it enjoyable.

The second-to-last stage has you 'cleanse' the weapon with Motes of Light. You just need five of these to do the trick, so pop into your inventory and redeem them. If you have run out, then keep playing until you level up, or decrypt Engrams, to get the amount you need.

Finally, in another nod to the original Thorn Quest, the Where It Began step has you run The Abomination Heist (also known as the revamped, level 320 version of The Summoning Pits) and use a Skeleton Key on the chest at the end when the boss dies. Our Skeleton Key and Strike-specific loot page gives you details on where to get the consumable, but chances are you'll have one already from completing the 'None are Perfect' Quest. Remember you can choose this Strike from the Director.

Once you've done that, the Year 3 Thorn will drop! It's a lot easier to get than the Year 1 variant, but unlike the Year 1 version that's gathering dust in your Vault, you can boost the Light level of this one up to the new cap through Infusing, making it a much more attractive prospect than the original.

Destiny Exotic Weapon Guides Coverage

Thorn Lore

"The Weapons of Sorrow are not the endgame, but a road map. Each evolution, every advance in the delivery of pain and the mastery of destruction feeds the Hive's hateful weapons research. They will map every scream, harness every aggression, until they understand every method by which to ravage the hearts, minds, and flesh of man. And in doing so, they will turn us against ourselves—feeding our lust, our greed, our fear, until we become a threat unto ourselves like none we could imagine. So, wield these, angry reaper. Strive to know the darkness in your own heart. Walk in the shadows of fallen heroes. And know that you are an enemy of hope."

—a warning

How-to Start the Thorn Quest

To start the Thorn Quest you will need to head to Trostland at the EDZ. North of Trostland is the Salt Mines, make your way to the mine and you will find the Transmat.

Use the Transmat, and you will teleport to a new location. Move forward here until you see the purple barrier and a guard rail on the left.

Move along the guard rail forward until you see a little alcove you can jump up into.

Keep moving forward and you will come up to a camp with a burnt out campfire. Walk up to the campfire and you'll get a prompt to "Sift through the Ashes." Do that and you will be given the "Melted Hunk of Metal" which starts you on your journey to obtaining the Thorn!

Thorn Quest Steps

Step 1: A Melted Hunk of Metal

Despite the burn damage, you recognize this weapon as a Thorn, a legendary weapon capable of severing Guardians from the Light. The Shadows of Yor, followers of an infamous Guardian-killer, are well-known for carrying Thorns. This one is broken, but you think it may be possible to fix it. A reputable (and discreet) gunsmith would know where to start.

Bring the ruined Thorn to Banshee-44 in the Tower.

Once you obtain the hunk of metal, you'll be bringing it to Banshee-44 at the Traveler.

Step 2: The Essence

Banshee has recommended a number of rare components that you should be able to use to restore your ruined Thorn to working order. First on the list is Hadronic Essence, a dense lattice of exotic baryons and mesons, once commonly favored as an infusion in Warlock fieldweave.

Gather Hadronic Essence by completing bounties for Asher Mir on Io, by defeating Warlocks in the Crucible, or by completing Nightfall strikes. Nightfall strikes grant the most efficient progress.

Time to gather some Hadronic Essence, and you can do this by completing bounties, defeating Warlocks in Cruicible, or completing Nightfall strikes. As it mentions, you'll get the most progress the fastest by doing Nightfalls.

Step 3: The Steel

Next on the list of required components is Plasteel Plating, a durable hybrid plastic favored by Titans for its balance of strength and workability. Plasteel is not commonly available for artisan use these days: the Red War wiped out the DIY supply chain within the City.

Gather Plasteel Plating by completing bounties for Sloane on Titan, by defeating Titans in the Crucible, or by completing encounters at the Blind Well. Heroic Blind Well encounters grant the most efficient progress.

Once you've turned in those Hadronic Essences, you'll need to gather Plasteel Plating. This has you either completing bounties for Sloane on Titan, defeating Titans in Crucible, or completing encounters at the Blind Well. Again, you are granted extra if you complete the harder of these which is the Heroic Blind Wells.

Step 4: The Binding

Last on the list of Guardian-grade components is Sapphire Wire, another hard-to-come-by item formerly favored by Hunters because of its versatility. Sapphire Wire, like Plasteel Plating, was another casualty of the Red War… but you feel confident that you can scrounge some up.

Gather Sapphire Wire by completing bounties for Ana Bray on Mars, by defeating Hunters in the Crucible, or by completing an Escalation Protocol wave. Escalation Protocol waves grant the most efficient progress.

Now it's time to gather Sapphire Wire which can be gained by completing bounties for Ana Bray on Mars, defeating Hunters in Crucible, or completing Escalation Protocol waves. You gain more efficient progress by doing the Escalation Protocols.

Step 5: Weaponize the Unknown

Your project is going well. The gun is now mechanically sound, but it is simply a gun: it has no intrinsic power of its own. You'll need to reconnect it to the Light somehow, and the vast dark secrets of the Void seem like the most promising route.

Defeat Guardians in the Crucible using Void energy or Hand Cannons. Precision streaks using Void Hand Cannons grant the most efficient progress. Note that progress is multiplied in the Iron Banner or in Competitive Crucible matches.

You've gathered up all the items, now it's time to defeat Guardians in the Crucible using Void Hand Cannons or Void Energy. You can get this progress increases by playing in the Iron Banner or Competitive Crucible. You can find a list of possible Void Hand Cannon options right here.

Step 6: Something Yet Remains

Your Thorn hums with the hungry indifference of the Void, but it lacks something essential. You know the original Thorn was intimately connected to the Hive, though you don't know exactly how. Wandering around the Tower to ask your mentors about the provenance of a banned weapon strikes you as a bad idea, but— There are quieter places to ask questions. Places off the beaten path, where knowledgeable Cryptarchs have settled down to do their work in peace and quiet…

Pay a visit to Tyra Karn at the Farm. The Farm is accessible via the EDZ Director.

Head to the Farm and talk to Tyra Karn who will lead you into the final step!

Step 7: The Chasm of Scream

While you were speaking to Tyra, she mentioned something called the Hated Path, a sort of primer to transform an ordinary Hand Cannon into a Thorn. Bathe your Light in horrors. Feed your weapon with death. Bind it with sickness. Horrors, death, sickness… that all sounds like the Hive nests on Titan to you.

Defeat the Arbiters, Sardav and Telesh, then defeat Savathûn's Song in an epic reprise of strike "Savathûn's Song" on Titan.

You'll be heading into an amped up version of this strike. The level of it is at 660 and you will want to be at least 640 to finish it, there's some modifiers to worry about and these are Blackout, Iron, and Harsh Elements (boosts elemental damage that you take). Defeat the Arbiters throughout the strike, and then both Sardav and Telesh during the main boss fight. You might need to slow down a bit during the Savathun fight to make sure they spawn in, so don't kill the boss until you take out both of them. Once the final boss has been slain, you can go obtain the Thorn!

Get Cabal Gold, Decrypting the Darkness

Destiny 2's Season of the Chosen is here and Calus's daughter Caiatl has come to our solar system to offer us a partnership. However, we are going to have to prove ourselves by battling the Cabal once again.

The new season has a main quest to follow to get you acquainted with the systems and the new areas.

This series of quests will take you all across the galaxy, and into never-before-seen areas of the Tower which offer interesting new ways to gather loot.

First, you'll take on the A Challenger Rises quest, before moving onto the meatier 12-step Challenger's Proving quest. This second quest runs you through more fresh activities, and tasks you with collecting a new currency: Cabal Gold.

Here's how to complete every step!

Destiny 2 A Challenger Rises quest

To start the A Challenger Rises quest, you simply have to turn on the game. You'll be greeted by two cutscenes, one showing Lord Saladin unsure about the arrival of the Cabal and the other our first meeting with Caiatl.

We are going to try and weaken her position and the Cabal's confidence in her leadership.

After this, you will be thrown into a matchmade event that will teach you about the new activity, Battlegrounds. These are fairly lengthy combat arenas.

You'll land on Nessus and be tasked with killing a bunch of Cabal. Eventually, a powerful one will land and you will have to kill them. They will grant you an Access Code. You will need three to move on. Once you are ready, put the codes into the terminal.

You will then be directed to a new area, so get on your sparrow and move. Once you arrive, surprise! Fight more Cabal. Eventually, a powerful Cabal will land that drops a bomb. Throw that bomb at the exposed generators. There are three you need to destroy.

After this, a boss will spawn. Damage them until they become immune. To deal more, you will need to kill another highlighted Cabal which will bring down the shield. Do this over twice until the boss falls.

They will drop the new Seasonal Artifact called the Bell of Conquest. Congratulations, you are now ready to move on.

How to complete the Challenger's Proving Quest in Destiny 2

You will now be directed to a new area in the Tower, The H.E.L.M. This will be your base of operations for much of this season. Walk up to the directed terminal and pick up the Challenger's Proving Quest. Then watch the interaction between Osiris and Crow.

You will be directed towards the new Umbral Decoder. The Cryptarchy have taken the Drifter's plans and made a new design for you to decrypt and focus these special engrams.

Walk up to it and you'll get a small sub-quest teaching you how to use the device. Tyra Karn will talk to you about that.

Decrypting the Darkness in Destiny 2

You'll be gifted a prismatic lens to help you craft and focus the Umbral Engrams into what you want.

For now, you will only have a limited choice though. Interact with the Prismatic Recaster and select Umbral Affinity. Then head to the decoder side of the table and decode your first Umbral Engram of the season. Hopefully, it was something good.

Now, back to the main quest. You will get a message from Lord Saladin about a nasty Cabal commander you need to hunt down.

Head to Europa to face him in the second Battleground. The same rules apply to the Nessus encounter you did earlier, but it's a tougher challenge. Once the boss is dead, you will get the Hammer of Proving.

Where to get Cabal Gold in Destiny 2

Return to the H.E.L.M and get a little lesson about how to use the new seasonal device. This acts similarly to the Cryptolith last season, in so much that it needs to be charged up in order to use.

Except instead of charges, you need Cabal Gold to socket into it.

You can earn Cabal Gold all over the place. Strike playlists, Gambit, Crucible, (heroic) public events, dungeons, Nightmare Hunts and the Blind Well all grant the currency so you have a ton of choice.

However, Bungie's official support Twitter has said that raids and dungeons are both bugged, and won't reward you with any Cabal Gold.

The fastest way to grind out a large Cabal Gold then, is to run heroic public events on whichever of your favourite planets you feel the most familiar with. However, for this first step, you can just run a couple of Crucible matches, or a single Playlist Strike.

Where to get Cabal Gold in Destiny 2
Activity:Cabal Gold Reward:
PvP (Crucible) 8
PvP (Gambit)8
Playlist Strike14
(Heroic) Public Event8
DungeonBugged
RaidBugged
The Blind Well14
Nightmare Hunt14

Pick your poison and do it until you have gotten 14 Cabal Gold. Once you've done that, go to your quest menu and open your Hammer of Proving. Use that money to make a Challenger Medallion which you should socket into the hammer.

Now head to the Strike playlist and select the Battleground playlist. From here do another Battleground. Fight Basilius The Golem and take him down. Then the fun part.

Go over the chests behind the main loot chest at the end of the mission and smash your hammer down to open it.

Now head back to H.E.L.M. Head over to the War Table and collect a new Umbral Engram. You'll now use the Hammer of Proving to focus it. Head over to the Prismatic Recaster and make your choice.

Right now, you will likely only have Tier 1 focusing so choose if you want a weapon or armour. You'll also see in the other tiers, you need to complete challenges and use certain kinds of weapons to be even more specific with your focusing.

Then decrypt your focused Umbral Engram. Then return to the War Table and get a debriefing from Lord Saladin. You now know how to use your Hammer of Proving, the Prismatic Recaster and do the Battleground activity.

Get out there and start smashing chests with your big hammer!

With this part of the main quest for the Season already completed, here's how to unlock the new stasis Aspect of Influence in Destiny 2.
