North carolina central university tuition and fees -

NCCU was the nation’s first public liberal arts college founded for African-Americans by Dr James E Shepard, a pharmacist and religious educator. It is a public university, a member of the University of North Carolina System (UNC), and the majority of students (78%) are African-American students. The undergraduate population is around 6,300 students and there are approximately 1,800 graduate and professional students. Undergraduate tuition fees for in-state students (i.e. those students from North Carolina) are US$ 3,450 and for out of state students, undergraduate tuition fees are US$ 14,000 a year. NCCU was the first university in the UNC system to require community service in order to graduate.

NCCU has a Community Engagement website which highlights opportunities for staff and students to become involved with community service work. NCCU prides itself on its motto, “Truth and Service” and they have been proud recipients of the Presidents Higher Education Community Service Award since its inception in 2006. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has recognised NCCU as a Community Engaged Institution in both curricular engagement and community outreach programmes.

NCCU requires all students to have participated in 120 hours of service activities before graduation, which is on average, 15 hours of service per semester. Service can be based within the curriculum or be extra-curricular and NCCU encourages  a progression of service options as students’ progress through their studies, incorporating one-off activities to begin with, then encouraging service-learning courses and finally internships.

The NCCU runs an academic service learning programme of which Deborah Bailey is the Director, and this unit offers support to faculty staff members who are designing and delivering service-learning courses. All service opportunities encourage elements of reflection, providing opportunities for students to ask questions and consider the wider issues around the service that they are conducting.

The Institute for Civic Engagement and Social Change at NCCU promotes civic engagement on campus, the surrounding community and the state in order to engender social change. NCCU has run very successful campaigns to increase student voter registration and participation in elections and this is a significant part of NCCU civic engagement work.

NCCU also has a Community Service Leave Policy, which enables staff to take leave to participate in volunteer activities in schools or with community service organisations.

Cost of a Degree

When considering ability to pay for college, the annual cost is often discussed but it's the "all in" multi-year degree cost which matters in the end. Let's take a look at what it could really cost for four years at North Carolina Central University.

Estimated 4 Year Cost at Published Tuition

At the current published rates, an estimated total tuition, fees and living expense price for a 4 year bachelor's degree at North Carolina Central University is $97,864 for students graduating in normal time. This methodology for estimating the 4 year cost is a straight multiple of the most recent reported annual total cost and does not factor in tuition increases during the time you're in school. It also assumes you receive no grant or scholarship aid and pay the full list price.

A potentially more accurate but less conservative estimate of a degree cost can be made by using the school's annual $6,682 in-state net price as the basis. Applying this cost over 4 would estimate the cost of a degree at $26,728**

If you end up on the "five year plan" and need an additional year to graduate, your five year cost could be as high as $122,330 or $33,410 using an average net price.

**Based on a 4 year multiple of Average Annual Net Price for in state students receiving grant or scholarship aid reported to the U.S. Department of Education's 2018/2019 IPEDS Survey. Financial aid is only available to those who qualify. Consult this school's net price calculator for further understanding of your potential net price.

Student Loans and Debt

The second consideration after understanding the cost of college is determining how to finance it. Some students are fortunate enough to have some form of family financial assistance, but student loans end up financing a significant portion of higher education in the U.S. 81% of North Carolina Central University students receive U.S. Federal Student Loans with an average annual Federal Loan aid amount of $6,505.

Example Loan Payments and Costs

How much are student loan payments for North Carolina Central University? Obviously this varies based on a number of factors - offsetting financial aid you receive, percentage of fee you pay upfront while enrolled and the interest rate on your loans. We've modeled a sample student loan based on current Stafford loan rates to give you an approximate idea.

The following are the costs for a loan if you borrowed $26,728, 100% of the estimated average net price for a four year program and paid nothing while enrolled. The total of all payments including interest would sum $30,601.75. This could be your effective total out of pocket cost of an education at North Carolina Central University. Note that this calculation assumes you don't pay full list price tuition, are part of the reported 83% of students at this school who receive financial aid and you are paying an average annual net price of $6,682. If you do not financially qualify for a reduced net price, your student loan payments could be significantly higher than this example. Use our North Carolina Central University student loan calculator below to change loan assumptions and recalculate.

Student loans are not free money and must be repaid. You cannot dismiss student loans by via bankruptcy.

Example Payments
Monthly Loan Payment$255.01
Amount Borrowed$26,728.00
Interest Rate2.75%
Term10 years
Number of Monthly Payments120
Total Interest Cost$3,873.75
Sum of All Payments over 10 years$30,601.75

Affording Student Loan Payments and Post Graduation Salary

Can I afford to attend North Carolina Central University? In the end, the answer comes down a determination if you will earn enough to comfortably pay back a student loan with your post graduation salary. This is an extremely important point to consider. In order to afford student loan payments and still meet all your other costs of living, it is recommended not to borrow more than you can pay back using 10% of your monthly income earned after graduation. If you're considering attending North Carolina Central University, you need to carefully consider if it will be realistic to make the post graduation loan payments based on your expected salary.

Using the 10% of salary threshold, an annual income of $30,601.75 would be needed to afford a $255.01 monthly payment in the example $26,728.00 loan modeled above. You will need to determine if it is at all realistic that you will be earning this type of salary after graduation. This assumes a loan payback over 10 years. You can change the terms of this example loan using the student loan calculator below.

This institute has already occurred.

North Carolina Central University (NCCU) and the Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences Network (CUREnet) invite you to a CURE Institute. During the Institute, participants will learn about and use evidence-based instructional strategies to develop plans, instructional materials, and assessment tools for integrating a science research project into their science laboratory course. Emphasis will be on the life sciences, but participants from other natural sciences and the social sciences are welcomed.

The institute will be hosted by Dr. Gail Hollowell (NCCU) and facilitated by Dr. Erin Dolan (University of Georgia), who is the principal investigator of CUREnet2, the next phase of development of a national network of people and programs creating, teaching, and assessing CUREs.

Institute Goals

The overarching goal of the CURE Institutes is to build faculty capacity to design and implement CUREs in the natural and social sciences. All institute sessions are designed based on research on learning in general and undergraduate research experiences in particular, will make use of active learning and equitable teaching strategies, interspersed with time for participants to apply what they are learning to design their CUREs and get feedback on their design.

Dates

The Institute will run these dates and times, with breakfast starting at 8:30 am:

  • 9 AM to 5 PM Thursday, May 17
  • 9 AM to 5 PM Friday, May 18
  • 9 AM to 12:30 PM Saturday, May 19
Please make arrangements to attend all Institute sessions.

Expectations

What are the participants expected to do:

  • BEFORE: Register for the Institute and respond to a handful of pre-Institute planning questions
  • DURING: Actively participate in all sessions, draft a CURE project entry on the CUREnet site (each session will include time to do this), and complete a brief end-of-Institute evaluation form
  • AFTER: Teach their CURE and complete their CURE project entry on the CUREnet site within one year of completing the Institute
All Institute participants will receive a certificate of acknowledgment.

Costs

There are no costs for participating in the Institute. Breakfast will be provided all days of the Institute and lunch will be provided on Thursday and Friday. Participants must cover any travel, lodging, and dinner costs.

Application and Selection Criteria

Any individual who plans to teach a CURE in the natural or social sciences is eligible to apply. A CURE involves an entire class of undergraduate students in addressing a research question or problem that is of interest to a broader community, such as the scientific community or other stakeholder outside the classroom (e.g., a community organization such as a watershed group). Individuals who are new to CURE instruction, who are teaching introductory level courses, and/or who are teaching at colleges or universities that enroll traditionally under-served populations (e.g., under-represented minority students, first-generation college students) will be prioritized.

Facilities

This CURE Institute will be held on the North Carolina Central University campus, in Room 2235 of the Mary M. Townes Science Building, 1900 Concord, St., Durham, NC 27707. 1. AirScholar we are a family of 6 and I quit my job to homeschool and take care of the kids. My husband only makes $50000 a year (military family) so we barely get by each month. If we put the kids in daycare we’d be broke even with both of us working

  2. @Handson Burg Due to a lot of hardships and circumstances s beyond my control, my score were in the ditch. I was served with eviction after I broke my lease, they swore the information was sent to my current address but I never received the eviction because of being gone from my previous address and never wrote a letter stating why I was moving. However, I decided to dig online for a credit repair solution and I came across a review or quora and YouTube here about trevorhacklord. Com and I must admit I was impressed. I quickly contacted trevorhacklord. Com asking if they could help me and how much will it cost me. They replied after discussing the process, we moved on, and guess what? They removed the eviction, fixed my credit history and raised my score to 850. They deleted the student loan, medical bills and bankruptcy filled 2018. I eventually bought bought a home with his help and we are living happily, may god bless trevorhacklord. Com
